About John

John Cyrier is State Representative for Texas House District 17, which includes Bastrop, Caldwell, Gonzales, Karnes and Lee counties. He is president and CEO of Sabre Commercial, a midsize commercial construction business, which is consistently ranked in the top-10 of the Austin Business Journal’s “Best Places to Work” and “Fast 50” list of the fastest growing companies in Central Texas. He was nominated for the journal’s Best CEO award in 2014 and 2015.

In the Texas House, John serves on the Agriculture and Livestock Committee and Land and Natural Resources Committee. During the 2015 legislative session, he authored, co-authored, or sponsored 27 pieces of legislation that became law, including landmark protections for local groundwater, a tough new border security plan, meaningful tax relief for Texas homeowners and businesses, and new protections for the Second Amendment, human life, and religious freedom. The Texas Conservative Coalition named him a “2015 Courageous Conservative” for his leadership.

Prior to serving in the Texas House, John was a county commissioner, executive committee member of the Capital Area Metropolitan Planning Organization, and founding board member of the Lockhart ISD Education Foundation. John is active in his district’s Chambers of Commerce and served on the boards of Caritas of Austin, Capital Area Food Bank, Austin Area Research Organization (AARO), San Marcos Airport Commission, and is a Precinct Chairman for the Caldwell County Republican Party. His service also includes the executive boards for the Real Estate Council of Austin, Capital Area Housing and Finance Corporation, and chairman for his region's chapter of the Associated General Contractors of America.

John and his wife, Rachelle, live on their ranch just outside of Lockhart, Texas. They manage a registered Texas Longhorn herd and are members of the Texas and Southwestern Cattle Raisers Association, Texas Longhorn Breeders Association, and Texas Farm Bureau. He is also a lifetime member of the NRA and Texas State Rifle Association. John is a 1995 graduate of Texas A&M University, where he served as Commander of the Fightin’ Texas Aggie Band.
